Kajol In A Chit Chat

On the way of extending her Family(likely to be due in October), Bollywood talent extreme Kajol gets candid for a tete-a-tete with Vishal Verma and talks about her family, motherhood, Kareena Kapoor and more.

Wearing a sleeveless orange dress and tied up hair Kajol frankly answers the queries as she is equally excited about her next release ‘We Are Family’ where once again she plays a mom on screen. Excerpts:

Q: Have You Seen Stepmom?

If you have seen, did it provide any guidance for your portrayal? A: Yes I have seen it but a long time ago, it’s a remake of Stepmom but we have Indianised it. The premise of the film is very Indian, so it wasn’t difficult. This film is different, it has songs, the situations are different and no there’s no guidance from the original played by Susan Saradon, Maya is very different from what Susan Sarandon was in Stepmom.

Q: You have done an Elvis Presley at the time when you where pregnant, did Karan Johar took any liberties as a producer considering that you are pregnant?

A: Karan is not a producer who will compromise. The song was to be picturised on me. I said if you want to picturise on somebody else then go ahead. I did it and it has turned out well. It’s so very 60’s, exotic in its looks and we all know Elvis as a rock and roll legend. It was fun doing it.

Q: You are on the way of extending your family, how did you manage to do the film in such condition?

A: It was in the later stage and when the film was nearing completion I came to know I was pregnant.  It didn’t worry me much.

Q: You are yourself a mother; did being a mother help you in portraying the role? Did you remember your child while emoting?

A: That’s very natural for mothers. As actors, we take our experiences from real life to our films. Every woman can identify with Maya’s character. Every woman wants to be perfect, as a mother, wife or daughter-in-law. We may not compromise at certain points but we aim for the same thing. That is the core of Maya’s character. Maya loves her children; all her decisions are made keeping them in mind. No, I didn’t remember my child while emoting.

Q: How is Kajol as a mother off screen?

A: I don’t trust anyone when it comes to my daughter Nysa; I am a strict mother, a little bit. In my house I am the ruling authority. Yeah, of course we and Ajay do figure it out, anyways I don’t cook everyday and I love my Family.

Q: How excited is Nysa about her forthcoming brother/sister?

A: She is pretty excited but she has a complaint.

Q: What?

A: She can’t hug me anymore as I’m pregnant and her desire is to have a sister, there are too many boys around in our family, no more boys now.

Q: Where you had doubts regarding Siddharth as he was directing his first film?

A: Yes, I had. Everybody does have apprehensions if they are concerned about the film they are working in. You come to know how the director is in the first schedule you can see how he works or whether he knows his job, and accordingly, you make your adjustments and work from there. Fortunately, Siddharth is a good a filmmaker.

Q: You are always frank?

A: I don’t sugarcoat, I would rather say in front of the person’s face then talk from behind. It needs courage to do that and say that I don’t like you; people can either take it or leave it.

Q: You are working with Kareena almost after a gap of nine years, what changes have you noticed?

A: She is definitely more thin and beautiful. During Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham, Kareena was young and novice. By the time We Are Family happened, she had gained a lot of experience.

Q: You are also a producer, any plans of taking up direction?

A: Do you want me to get ulcers, no never. I’m happy acting and no need to get into direction and get ulcers. Source
