Ferrari Ki Sawaari's 1st show Review
![]() Cast: Sharman Joshi, Boman Irani, Ritvik Sahore Directer : Rajesh Mapuskar Ferrari Ki Sawaari, Movie of Vidhu Vinod Chopra from which he has been expecting a lot. Most of his friends suggested him to not to release this movie as this movie has nothing to attract. They even suggested him that if he wants this movie to release he should have a Superstar in it, to make audiences come and watch the movie. But Vidhu Tok the challenge to go for it without the suggestions of his friends. The Hindi film industry is going through realignment. The mood within the industry is that of experimentation and trialing and a lot is being done, with a wide variety of stories being explored. Producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra, first-time director Rajesh Mapuskar and writer Rajkumar Hirani choose an intelligible plot, garnish it well with humor and emotions, cast splendid actors and presto, a heart-warming tale of unconditional and unmitigated love between a father and his son is out for public consumption. One can count the number of Hindi films that are so genuine and have inherent honesty within them. FERRARI KI SAWAARI is one such film. It tugs at your heartstrings, it urges you to scrutinize oneself, it makes you look at the world differently. How many motion pictures can boast of accomplishing all that? Uncomplicated and unpretentious in the truest sense of the word, it's a film that wins your heart because it's such a relevant and relatable story. Rusy and Kayo could be your friends, they could be your kids… who knows they could be a mirror image of yourself. Besides, director Rajesh Mapuskar, who wields the megaphone for the first time, uses the expensive car more as a metaphor for conveying an ordinary man's larger-than-life dreams and does it so beautifully. Some of the most delightful scenes in the film are short-lived but enough to experience the suggested emotion. One of them would be the scene where Kayo peeks into his grandpa’s room just after learning about his glorious past. It’s a tiny scene with no dialogues but it speaks volumes about the new-found love, respect and admiration that is visible in Kayo’s eyes. The film wins for being simplistic and devoid of forced complications. But it is this same merit that could be seen as a minus as many could perceive the film to be too straight-laced and without a personality. But ‘Ferrari Ki Sawaari’ should be regarded for the very fact that it dares to do just that without worrying about how it would be perceived or sold or acknowledged. A simple story told simply by characters who can’t spell ‘complex’ but manage to get you to sit up and empathize with them. This may not be Sharman’s most challenging role till date and it just needed him to sellotape a generous smile for most scenes and wet his cheeks for the other high-powered dramatic scenes. Having said that, a lot did weigh on him as he is, in every way, the lead star here and in that regard, he did display his pearliest whites and uncorked his tear glands to cause minor floods. But this film wouldn’t be half the film it is if it wasn’t for the rock solid supporting cast. For Boman, playing a middle-aged Parsi who is cynical about life and everything else was pretty much like it would be for Tendulkar to play a gully cricket match with infants. Effortless and flawless in equal measure. A special mention needs to go for the characters playing Sachin Tendulkar’s housekeeper and watchman. They were both equally sharp in setting the mood and momentum in many scenes that would otherwise be unspectacular and bland. On the whole, FERRARI KI SAWAARI is a noble film, a film that has its heart in the right place. It's well-intended and sincere and it goes about its business with incredible earnestness. Of course, the film has its share of hiccups, but then all films do, right? But keeping the fault-finding apart, FERRARI KI SAWAARI is an accomplished effort. It's that exceptional film that communicates a point and tells a sensitive story in those 2.10 hours. This heartwarming, tender and sprightly film should not be missed! |
