Zoya hints at Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara Sequel

Making a sequel of a successful movie has become a norm in Bollywood. Even Zoya Akhtar has hinted that she might make a suquel to her hugely successful movie Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara.Filmmaker Zoya Akhtar who has earlier helmed Luck and the hit multi-starrer Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (ZNMD), says that a sequel to ZNMD is on her mind but it has to wait. “I and Reema (Kagti) are currently writing two scripts, one for me and one for her.

But my script is not the sequel to ZNMD. That is something which is on my mind but it will happen few years from now. I have lot of other good stories to tell,” says Zoya, who is daughter of veteran lyricist Javed Akhtar and sister of actor and director Farhan Akhtar.

Moving on, the 39-year-old is quite excited about her short film in the upcoming collaborative project to mark the centenary year of Indian cinema, Bombay Talkies. The film, which releases next month, also features short films by three other filmmakers, Anurag Kashyap, Karan Johar and Dibakar Banerjee.

About the sequel, the admirers of the movie would surely be hoping for it!

Shanghai Has Crossed Its Breakeven Point

Dibakar Banerjee mentions that the film Shanghai has recovered its cost, Emraan says that SHANGHAI is his boldest film in context to its content.

Said Dibakar at the success meet, ”We spent Rs12 crore in the making and Rs 8 crore in the marketing of SHANGHAI. From Monday, we have been making profits. This was our aim and we have achieved it. It was never made to be a blockbuster though.”

Emraan says, ”In my career, SHANGHAI is the boldest film I’ve done! We’ve stepped out of the wicket and we’ve made such a film which breaks the convention! Some actors stay in the safe zone and make films for their loyal audiences, like I worked in JANNAT 2, but I really respect Dibakar for making a film like SHANGHAI.”

SHANGHAI, released on 7th June, also stars Kalki Koechlin and Abhay Deol.  Source

Shanghai – The Political Drama Leaves A Huge Impact : The Review

Much acclaimed movie Shanghai has hit the cinema halls today. Shanghai is basically a political thriller where the viewers will witness a sensuous socialism and capitalism ideologies with a strong story line.

Though, this type of movie is not new to bollywood but the expertise of Dibakar Banerjee as a director has made the film at par from the traditional political drama making it worth to watch.

Shanghai has definitely taken the bollywood movie regime to a step further with its offbeat subject and excellent show of direction and acting.

Adapted from Vasilis Vasilikos’ novel Z, Shanghai is a story of small town Bharatnagar, where the ruling party proposes an upcoming infrastructure project ahead of the elections for the development of the town and wishes to make it another Shanghai, a dream city.

Then comes respected left wing socialist and activist, Dr Ali Ahmedi (Prosenjit Chatterjee), who is opposes this project, as hundreds of families will loose their shelter due to this project unwillingly. More

Promotions Are Already On For ‘Shanghai’

Emraan Hashmi, Kalki Koechlin, Abhay Deol and director Dibakar Banerjee were in Delhi to promote Shanghai and they were able to attract huge crowds to the promotional gigs. At Shipra Mall, for instance, hundreds of fans turned up to have a dekko at the film stars. People filled in the mall, lined along the balusters and cheered the Shanghai team as the actors took the stage.

Emraan Hashmi got the maximum cheers. He wore a T-shirt that read “Proud to be dirty”. Kalki Koechlin was dressed in shorts and a white shirt, perfect for Delhi summer. Abhay Deol even had a coat on.

During their Delhi stay, the team also visited the JNU campus and had a healthy discussion with the students of the university — known for its active political ethos — on several issues related and unrelated to the film. Dibakar Banerjee even made the Shanghai team grab a bite of the JNU canteen food. Source

Top Five Films Of Bollywood in 2011

5) Don 2

Panned by many critics, this film makes it to the list for not only being the first genuinely slick action flick of Bollywood, but also because it brought  back memories of a Shahrukh Khan we didn’t despise. Don 2, despite its slow pacing and rather humdrum plot, worked rather gloriously because the Don himself got to deliver some fun punchlines; wear masks of actors far more good looking than him and romance the girl with the sexiest pout in Asia, Priyanka Chopra. Looking back at the year, this is the only mega hit of 2011 that was actually fun to sit through.

4) Stanley Ka Dabba

This film should be much higher up, if only it wasn’t for the lack of its mainstream elements. Yet, this is a small-scale, simple and spectacular film that works as effectively in providing a refreshing twist to the poor state of children’s cinema in India as it does in tugging at the heartstrings without trying too hard. The Partho kid is rather neat, but his father, director Amole Gupte (the writer of Taare Zameen Par) is the one who takes the cake here. A must-see!

3) Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara

This film is in our list because this is, by far, the best looking flick of the year, a tour-guide to Spain that unimpressively breezed through much frivolity and mush before taking off the covers and showing us a heart and a soul. This was mainstream, commercial cinema that had something to say — and while the underlying theme was rather stale — the packaging was pretty damn great. Katrina rode a bike all the way through Barcelona only to give a man a kiss, Hrithik Roshan stood opposite her to complete the fantastic looking pair and Farhan Akhtar rose above the role to truly give a heartfelt performance.

2) The Dirty Picture

First banned and then unbanned in Pakistan, this gutsy film is perhaps the most unforgettable feature film of the year. The rigorously censored version in Pakistani theatres should be given a miss. This one is to be seen at home, late at night when kids and parents have been put to sleep. Revolving around a vulgar little South Indian item girl, The Dirty Picture is far braver an achievement than Delhi Belly — another push-the-envelope feature — simply because it uses a female to forward the theme. And what a female she is! Vidya Balan — a genuine actor revelling in her onscreen glory with such remarkable glee — is the one reason why this film is so high up on this list. Trendsetting stuff!

1) Rockstar

Take a bow, ladies and gentlemen. In a year when Aamir was absent, Hrithik was sleepy, Shahrukh and Salman were busy baking blockbuster recipes; one guy stood up and showed them all who the real daddy of performance is. Ranbir Kapoor and this realistic story of music, love and pain are not stuff that Bollywood is used to. Kapoor is a superstar and a spectacular actor who knows how to pull off both sides of him at the same time.

ZNMD Is Making Huge Noise At The Box Office

Zoya Akhtar’s road trip film, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (ZNMD), has given the box office and the audience a reason to smile.

ZNMD’s net collection on the first day was about Rs 7.5 crore and approximately Rs 9 to Rs 9.25 crore on the second.

Even though Harry Potter initially sped ahead of Zoya Akhtar’s film in the early shows, the Hrithik Roshan-Farhan Akhtar-Abhay Deol starrer quickly caught up. Yet, apprehensions about it slowing down in the coming days do exist. “I don’t know whether it will be able to sustain for too long,” adds Nahta, while trade analyst Taran Adarsh reveals, “It is not selling so much in single screens, but on the strength of the multiplexes, the youth has taken to the film in a big way. It might be one of the biggest openings we’ve seen.” Source
