Filmmaker Tigmanshu Dhulia’s biopic Paan Singh Tomar, which has been receiving rave reviews from all quarters, has had a decent start in its opening weekend with earnings amounting to Rs.4.25 crore.
Made at a meagre budget of Rs.4.5 crore, the film witnessed a slow start as it earned only Rs.85 lakh Friday. However, the response improved over Saturday and Sunday with collections of Rs.1.4 crore and Rs.2 crore, respectively, according to trade analyst Taran Adarsh.
Starring Irrfan in the lead, the film tracks the real-life story of national level athlete Paan Singh Tomar, who went on to become one of the most dreaded dacoits of Chambal Valley. More
Biopics are a tricky field. Even though the maker has an advantage of a compelling story to tell, it’s also a big burden to bear. The real life story of the soldier and master athlete-turned-dacoit Paan Singh Tomar is an interesting one to put it mildly, and thankfully it fell into the deft hands of Tigmanshu Dhulia.
Paan Singh Tomar was an army man who from 1958 represented India and was a seven time national champion in Steeplechase.
Tomar is a simple man who gets into army for the love of his motherland and gets into sports for the love of food. When his cousins get together to usurp his land, and when the local cops refuse to help him, Paan Singh is pushed against the wall and is forced to turn into a dacoit. More
After his humour outing with Anees Bazmee’s ‘Thank You’, talented actor Irrfan Khan is back to serious stuff… And that too a project from overseas…
Irrfan said to have been considered for a movie titled ‘Banker To The Poor’ which will be helmed by Italian filmmaker Marco Amenta. The movie is in fact inspired from a novel with the same name that is based on the Bangladeshi Nobel Peace Prize winner Muhammad Yunus.
Yes, Irrfan will be playing the title role… The movie revolves around the protagonist, Yunus the eminent banker, and how he materialised his dream of bringing a bank which caters to monetary needs of the poorest of the poor. It will also show how Yunus worked towards empowering the poor, helped them be financially stable, which in turn enhanced the Bangladeshi economy. Source
Very recently we read somewhere that actress Rimi Sen had said in an interview that she was not keen on doing multi-starrers. However, contrary to her statement, in today’s release, Rimi Sen will be seen in a multistarrer, the Anees Bazmee directed THANK YOU, featuring Akshay Kumar, Suneil Shetty, Irrfan Khan, Sonam Kapoor and of course Rimi herself.
When we clarified the same from Rimi, the straight forward actress, without batting an eyelid, accepted that she had indeed made such a statement. She told us, “Actually most muti-starrers don’t have much role for actresses.
That is why I am not very keen on them.” So, why did she decide to do THANK YOU? And Rimi replied, “I really like Irrfan Khan, both as an actor and as a person and that’s why I wanted to act with him. Another reason is that I like the way Anees Bazmee makes his films and that’s why I chose to do THANK YOU.” About the duration of her shoot she said, “I shot for about a month. But I will not tell you about my role. It’s a surprise.” More
Irrfan is just as much at home in Bollywood and is looking forward to the release of Billo Barber and Dil Kabaddi. What can he tell us of his role in the latter movie? “I am playing a normal guy who works in a bank and he has a very nice wife. But sometimes you know, when you are nearing forty, you want to relive your youth and become this cool dude again. He is also mentally disturbed because he is not getting enough sex with his wife. He feels that if you don’t get enough sex, then the balance of your mind and body gets shattered. So that is his concern.”
Irrfan Khan is winning rave reviews for his performances in Mira Nair’s The Namesake, A Mighty Heart, Darjeeling Limited and more recently for his short performance in Slumdog Millionaire. How did his relationship with Mira develop? “She brought me to Bombay and we did a workshop together and that was a great experience for me because I was full of idealistic notions of acting, and the workshop totally changed my perspective. Suddenly one day she called me for The Namesake and said you are doing this role. And I just happened to be reading the book at the time. And it happened.” Source
Irfan Khan is the most excited actor in the industry these days. Priyadarshan’s new project Billoo Barbar where he plays the title role and becomes the first Indian actor to actually learn the art of hair-cutting.
I’m actually going to sit with a roadside barbar and observe him at work. As soon as I finish learning you’ll be the first person whose hair I’ll cut and then probably Shah Rukh Khan who’s my co-star in Billoo Barbar.” says Irfan
He has already started shooting for the film. “We complete the film by July.”
Irrfan is hugely kicked about this co-star. “Shah Rukh is such a sport. He called me. ‘I’ll dance in the film while you do the acting, ‘ he told me generously. He’s so comfortable in his space. I want to learn that from him. I want to be comfortable in my surroundings. That’s the only plan I have for my career”
Irrfan was willing to work with Priyadarshan. “I saw his recent film Kanjeevaram. Excellent film. If he has been doing a spate of comedies it’s because that was the market’s demand. Billoo Barbar will take him into a different league. It’s a very moving story.” Source
