Department Fails To Impress Over Box Office

Given RGV’s track record, especially after COMPANY (barring a SARKAR), his latest venture, the Big B, Sanjay Dutt and Rana Daggubati starrer, DEPARTMENT, was never expected to embark upon a great start. But the 15-25 percent opening (better in Maharashtra, South and single screens of UP & Bihar) was quite disappointing.

A section of the audience and media feels that DEPARTMENT was touted as a Amitabh-Dutt face-off, but quite contrary to expectations, it’s Rana Daggubati who has the most prominent role followed by Sanjay Dutt, with Big B being relegated to a glorious extra. And that will take its toll on the box-office outcome of the film, unless and until it shows a remarkable pick up.

Meanwhile after a good weekend, last Friday’s ISHAQZAADE saw falling collections (though not alarmingly) during the weekdays. The opening week saw the Arjun-Parineeti starrer netting 25 crore (to be validated). The 20-21 crore film from the YRF stable will have to show good legs in the second week to be termed a clean hit, and not just a highly profitable venture. What works in favour of ISHAQZAADE is that 60 percent of its investment has already been recovered by the makers who are also its worldwide distributors. More

Amitabh, Sanjay & Rana In Department

One of contemporary Hindi cinema’s most inventive filmmakers, Ram Gopal Varma, unites a who’s who of cross-generational acting heavyweights in his latest piece of cinematic artistry, Department, opening its doors in the UK on 18th May 2012 through B4U Pictures and presented by Viacom 18 Motion Pictures.

With all the markings of another classic and following the tradition of earlier superhits such as Company, Sarkar and Sarkar Raj, Varma takes audiences on another rollercoaster ride to the dark side – this time into the guarded inner echelons of the police ‘department’, where the unnerving power struggles quickly separate the men from the boys.

Testifying the film’s thematic mantra that ‘Real Power Comes From Real Men’, Department features acting heavyweights that transcend the generations as veteran actors Amitabh Bachchan and Sanjay Dutt appear alongside Tamil artist and rising star of Hindi cinema, Rana Daggubati. Not for the faint-hearted, the film consistently packs a punch with state-of-the-art action sequences, a gripping, fast-paced narrative and powerful dialogues that will surely establish themselves as iconic lines that define the zeitgeist of Indian cinema. Rajkumar Hirani To Direct The Munnabhai Next Series

Rajkumar Hirani himself confirmed this during the first song launch event of FERRARI KI SAWAARI, the latest film of Vidhu Vinod Chopra Productions, being readied for release on 15th June, 2012. He also mentioned that he had promised Sanjay Dutt that he would direct three films for him. There has been a lot of speculation about it.

There was news that DO DOONI CHAAR and ISHAQZAADE helmer Habib Faisal was in touch with Rajkumar Hirani and Vidhu Vinod Chopra. He was hotly tipped to direct the next installment of the blockbuster franchise. Faisal had confirmed to the media that such a possibility was being explored.

What has made Rajkumar Hirani to direct the film himself now? Is it because he wanted to keep his promise to Sanju Baba? He will be doing it only after PEEKEY, and when he is fully satisfied with the MUNNABHAI 3 script. Surprisingly, we have seen so many flip-flops happening on the issue. The film was conceived immediately after LAGE RAHO MUNNABHAI . However, before it could go on the floor Hirani got busy with 3 IDIOTS. More

Sanjay Dutt Expresses His Desire To Do A Chulbul Pandey

It seems Salman Khan’s “Dabangg” Chulbul Pandey has become an iconic character. Sanjay Dutt, who dons the khaki for “Department”, says he would love to play a similar kind of role.

“I wish I could do Chulbul Pandey but this (‘Department’ role) is something different. ‘Department’ talks about police department. It is a real story with real characters. It is about two cops, while one works with values and principles, the other is completely opposite,” Sanjay told reporters here Monday.

“It’s a commercial film but it has a meaning to it. I couldn’t play Chulbul Pandey or Singham (Ajay Devgn’s role in ‘Singham’) in it,” he added.

The actor was here for the promotion of “Department”, which hits the screen May 18. Sanjay was accompanied by co-star Rana Daggubati and item girl Nathalia Kaur.

The movie also features Amitabh Bachchan in a pivotal role. Source

Sanjay Dutt’s Classic Gesture For Big B In ‘Department’

Now here’s some fantastic information for fans of superstar Sanjay Dutt and Amitabh Bachchan. News is that Sanjay Dutt has paid a stunning tribute to Big B with a special remake of Bachchan’s iconic track ‘Thodi Si Jo Pi Li Hai’ from NAMAK HALAAL for RGV’s much awaited DEPARTMENT.

The upcoming action drama will see a most unique remake of the original Bachchan classic masterpiece picturised on Dutt and ace choreographer Ganesh Acharya.

With the original rights to the song being bought, music director Bappa Lahiri has rendered a contemporary take on the Big B song and it has been sung by none other than Sukhwinder Singh.

RGV talks about his inspiration of remaking the cult song for DEPARTMENT, “Like millions of others I have always been a huge fan of ‘Thodi Si Jo Pi Li Hai’ song from NAMAK HALAAL and I felt to picturise it on Sanjay Dutt will be a fitting tribute to Mr. Bachchan’s classic masterpiece!” More

Its Going To Be Sanjay Dutt Vs Aditya Chopra At The BO

Though Bollywood filmmakers usually have an unwritten pact about not coming in each other’s way, especially when it comes to release of their films, it seems like all sense of brotherhood won’t really hold true this summer. This is evident from the fact that Sanjay Dutt has decided to take on Chopras head-on even though it was the latter’s film that has been finalised for release first.

“Arjun Kapoor would be making his debut with ISHAQZAADE which releases in May. Aditya Chopra has taken a personal interest in launching yet another newcomer in the lead after Ranveer Singh. He is very particular about ISHAQZAADE seeing good hype building for it but seems like Sanjay Dutt may well foil his plans. Now that he has decided to bring DEPARTMENT on the same date, it is going to be the clash of titans, in this case Dutt v/s Chopras”, informs our well placed source who has been closely following the progress of both the films.

In fact Ram Gopal Varma has declared DEPARTMENT plans for the first time after a lot of dilly-dallying and it is almost impossible that he would now make way for the Chopras. More

Sanjay Dutt Is Still Angry With Ameesha Patel For Her Exposive Appearance?

The latest is that Sanjay Dutt has unfollowed Ameesha Patel from his Twitter page, regardless of the fact that Ameesha and his wife Manyaata are close friends. On the other hand, Ameesha still continues to follow Dutt and his wife.

The fracas between Ameesha Patel and Sanjay Dutt reportedly kickstarted at Rohit Dhawan’s sangeeth ceremony in Goa where Ameesha showed up wearing a skimpy choli, as reported. Sanjay Dutt, who is a brotherly figure to her, wasn’t comfortable with Ameesha’s revealing dress and covered it up with a dupatta.

It was said that Ameesha was angered over being told how to dress by Dutt and she badmouthed him later on. Amisha Patel, however, denies having done so.

Whatever the fallout, with Sanjay Dutt unfollowing Ameesha, it’s clear that all is not yet well between the two. Source

Sanjay Dutt Covers Up The Revealing Ameesha Patel

This incident happened at David Dhawan’s son Rohit Dhawan’s sangeet ceremony held in Goa. It’s said that Amisha Patel came to the sangeet, wearing a chaniya choli, and, like always, she wore a skimpiest of choli that left most of her cleavage exposed.

After seeing her in a revealing outfit like this, Sanjay Dutt who is husband of her good friend Maanyata and is like a big brother to Amisha, asked her to cover up. In fact, he even went a step ahead and took her dupatta from her shoulder and draped it around her to make her look ‘decent’. This cover-up act apparently didn’t go down well with Amisha; she didn’t like the fact that someone tried to change the way she chooses to look.

Moreover, there were rumours that Amisha Patel created a scene at the sangeet and accused Sanjay Dutt of touching her ‘inappropriately’. But the lady denied that Dutt ever misbehaved with her and told a daily that these are “cheap rumours” and “sheer nonsense spread by jealous losers.”

Sanjay Dutt said, “I have always thought of Ameesha as a sister. I would’ve done the same with my sisters Priya and Namrata if I felt that they were dressed unsuitably at an event. I would never disrespect a lady…”  Source

Sanjay Dutt Continues To Be The Bad Guy

Kancha Sanjay Dutt just can’t seem to get enough of gangster roles. After playing an underworld gangster in movies like Aatish,Vaastav, Plan and Jung, Agneepath, Sanjay Dutt will yet again be ‘don’ning the role of an underworld figure in director Soham Shah’s next venture, where he will play the role of real life Gujarat based gangster Sharman Munjha Jadeja. Incidentally, the Shabana Azmi starrer Godmother was based on the life of Munjha’s wife Santokben Jadeja.

Known as the Robin Hood of Gujarat, Sharman Munjha and his family ruled Porbandar and other areas of Gujarat in the 80s. A source was quoted to have said, “Soham came up with the idea of making a film on Sharman and Sanjay Dutt loved the idea so much that he agreed to not only act in the film, but also produce it as well.”

The film will also star Vivek Oberoi, another favourite for gangster films after movies like Company and Shootout At Lokhandwala and sources claim that the dusky dame Chitrangda Singh is likely to play the female lead. Source

Hrithik Roshan’s Agneepath Crosses The 100 Crore Mark

Continuing its superb run, Karan Malhotra’s Hrithik Roshan, Sanjay Dutt, Priyanka Chopra and Rishi Kapoor starrer, AGNEEPATH has achieved another distinction. On Sunday (5th February), AGNEEPATH crossed the 100 crore mark from India.

This is an important milestone in superhero Hrithik Roshan’s career as AGNEEPATH is his first film which has netted more than 100 crores, having missed the mark by 8 crore in ZINDAGI NA MILEGI DOBARA.

In fact just as we had predicted last month (Priyanka all set for a double hundred!-13th January) after DON 2, AGNEEPATH turns out to be the second 100 crore netter for Priyanka, and puts her on par with Asin (GHAJINI and READY).

With AGNEEAPTH still being the first preference for the audience, even during the second weekend, the film has bright chances of achieving a super hit status. Source

Agneepath Is The Ultimate Blockbuster of 2012

Agneepath is clearly emerging as the first blockbuster of the year 2012. After a slight dip in the collections on Friday, the film picked up well on Saturday and Sunday. Here’ the lowdown.

The film, starring Hrithik Roshan, Sanjay Dutt, Rishi Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra, opened to a thunderous start on the Republic Day, January 26, when it broke off all box office records for the first-day earning, by raking in a whopping Rs. 23 crore.

However, there was an alarming fall in the collections on Friday with the day bringing in just Rs. 12 crore into the film’s kitty. The response picked up on Saturday as the collections role to Rs. 14.5 crore. Sunday was still better with Rs. 17.5 crore.

Totting up the figures leaves us with an aggregate first weekend collection of Rs. 67.5 crore for Agneepath, which is quite good and justifies all the partying by the film’s actors to celebrate its success. More
