Karan Johar has remade the 1990 action-drama Agneepath with Hrithik Roshan in the lead, but the filmmaker says he and director Karan Malhotra never attempted to recreate the magic of the Amitabh Bachchan-starrer original.
The 39-year-old filmmaker, whose father Yash Johar had produced the earlier film, says they wanted to take the basic core of Agneepath and narrate it an altogether different manner because it was “virtually impossible” to emulate something as powerful as Vijay Deenanth Chauhan.
“How can anyone emulate Amitabh Bachchan? Nobody should do that and it is to Karan Malhotra’s intelligence and Hrithik’s conviction that they understood it really well and approached the film and the characters in their own way,” Johar told. More

With ‘masala’ films and remakes back in a strong way, the villains too are back to make Hindi films spicier and more thrilling. Names like GHAJINI, WANTED, SINGHAM and MURDER 2 saw the return to screen of powerful villains who during yesteryears made life hell for the hero and the climax a nail biting affair.
If we look at recent trends Prakash Raj, with back-to-back award winning scene stealing acts in WANTED, BBUDDAH… HOGA TERRA BAAP and SINGHAM, deserves a mention as he can rightly be called an all time entertaining villain, almost in the league of greats like Amjad Khan, Pran and Amrish Puri, though he still has a long way to go and prove himself in films other than South remakes.
In fact the Bhatts who have always provided Bollywood with able and apt villains like Paresh Rawal, Gulshan Grover etc. went a step further with Prashant Narayan in MURDER 2. And this is not it as we have many more memorable performances coming up. More
I was surprised when just a few days before the release of ‘Rascals’ there were predictions made on the lines of ‘This Ajay Devgn-Sanjay Dutt starrer will take one of the top openings of the year’. Reason being, and as predicted in this very column last week, the film was reasonably awaited amongst the audience as well as trade circles but never expected to embark on a record breaking start by any means. Yes, it was always meant to be a safe film but for those claiming it to be a superhit or a blockbuster in the making were sadly mistaken as this David Dhawan film was never pitched as a mega crore money spinner. Ameesha Patel is happy that with Sanjay Dutt starrer ‘Chatur Singh Two Star’, she would be seen on the big screen again after ‘Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic’. However one still can’t deny the fact that original plan for ‘Chatur Singh…’ was to release at least two years ago. Isn’t she worried about the delay?
“See, first and foremost this wasn’t something that any of us had planned. There was delay in production that further led to release date getting pushed. However does this mean that is dated? No, not at all as its look as well as the music too are very contemporary. Moreover the story is such that it would have worked 10 years ago or even 10 years down the line. No, I am not worried or depressed at all. On the contrary I am really excited about the film’s release now since it has shaped up so fantastic,” says Ameesha in a confident tone. More
From last two weeks media has been agog with Salman Khan and Sanjay Dutt fight and subsequent patch-up news. However Sanjay Dutt once and for all clears that the so-called fight is mere media’s imagination and there is no truth in it.
“There was no spat between us. Salman is like a younger brother, who came to my house and as we went down (in garage) to talk, everyone predicted that we had a big quarrel which is untrue,” clears Sanjay.
But when Sanjay Dutt hosted a private dinner for Shahrukh Khan, Salman’s foe, a few days back people started speculating that Sanjay has joined SRK’s camp post his ‘supposed’ fight with Salman. However Sanjay declares that neither he belongs to any camp nor he believes in it.
Says Sanju, “I am one actor who is in no camp. An actor who respects me I give respect back to him. I love all my actors, I love my film industry and this is my family.” More
B-town is abuzz with rumors that latest arch-rivals Salman Khan and Sanjay Dutt have finally settled their differences and made peace after an earlier fall out during Manyata’s birthday bash.
