Shiney Ahuja. You’d be forgiven if the first thought that came into your mind when reading this name was about his current court case. Nearly two years ago, the actor was accused of raping his house-help, and in an ongoing case, was handed the “guilty” verdict which he has appealed against. In his short career, Ahuja has acted opposite Kanagna Ranaut, Vidya Balan and Soha Ali Khan to name a few. He had been appreciated in his debut movie Hazaaron Khwaishen Aisi and won a number of Best Newcomer awards for his performance in it.

The actor was convicted of rape in March and sentenced to seven years in prison. He has since been released on bail awaiting his appeal hearing. A date is yet to be confirmed. The actor recently gave his very first TV interview since the accusation was made. He explained in the conversation that his family members were his biggest strength. He described his thoughts while being in prison as always being with his family members. He said his wife, Anupam, in particular was a pillar of support and always believed in him, “I was living in jail because of my wife, my daughter and my parents”. He said that he didn’t know what he would have done without them.

When talking about his wife further, he revealed, “People always say that Anupam is with me because I’m an actor but the truth is that her family background is much more well-to-do than mine”. His wife also spoke and said, “The girl said that nothing happened, the medical reports showed no blood and the doctors confirmed that there had been no sexual intercourse but yet he was still convicted”. Actor Shiney Ahuja on Tuesday moved the Bombay High Court challenging his conviction for the rape of his maid in June 2009.

“Justice A.R. Joshi admitted the appeal challenging Shiney’s conviction by a sessions court, which sentenced him to seven years rigorous imprisonment,” his lawyer Shrikant Shivade said. Shivade also said that they have filed a bail application pending hearing of the appeal. “It is likely to come up for hearing on 27th April,” he said.

A Mumbai sessions court on 30th March sentenced the actor to seven years in jail after finding him guilty of raping his maid. Ahuja was arrested in June, 2009 after medical tests on the maid confirmed sexual assault. The Bombay High Court had granted him bail in October 2009.

Over a year after accusing Ahuja of raping her, the maid, in September 2010, told the court that the rape never took place, though the medical examination had confirmed rape. Source

Bollywood star Salman Khan was shocked when he heard actor Shiney Ahuja has been sentenced to seven years in prison in a rape case. But he hopes the actor will eventually be declared innocent.

“Seven years? Seven years is a lot! I have been locked up myself, so I know what happens,” said Salman, who himself has had brief stints in jail.

The 45-year-old actor, who was embroiled in a hit-and-run case as well as in a black buck shooting case, has good wishes for Shiney, who was sentenced by a Mumbai sessions court Wednesday.

“I hope he (Shiney) is innocent, and if anyone is trying to frame him, that person should come out in the open. Seven year jail term is too long, especially if someone has lied about it,” added Salman.

According to reports, Shiney might appeal against the verdict in the Bombay High Court. More

Shiney Ahuja and his maid for each other tales have sent the mediavine into overdrive. In a dramatic twist that has shocked collective psyches, the maid who’d earlier accused Ahuja of rape, has now done a complete volte face and has denied the charges altogether as reported earlier!

Her contention now is that she was coerced into besmirching the actor’s name on the insistence of the house help who got her employment at the Ahujas.

Ahuja’s lawyer Shrikanth Shivade cautions in a tabloid quote stating, “Please don’t rush to any conclusion, as the trial is still in court. The next hearing is on September 15.”

Even as matters take a new course, a topline newspaper zoomed into action mode, conducting a spot poll on the issue. And interestingly, 68 per cent of the respondents believed that the maid changed her statement because she was paid to say so.

States one of the respondents, “At the end of the day, Shiney is a wealthy man with connections. The poor maid never had a chance. Everyone knew mostly that this is where the case would ultimately lead to. The maid must have wanted money then too.” Source

The 20-year-old domestic help has told a fast-track court that she had framed false charges against Shiney on the instructions of the woman who got her the job with the Ahujas, reports a news channel.

“On September 3, the victim identified Shiney in the court and said she used to work at his residence as a domestic help. But when asked about the incident she said it never happened and that she was never raped,” public prosecutor Kashinath Dighe said.

Shiney Ahuja was arrested on June 14, 2009 after the woman accused the actor of forcing himself on her and threatening her against speaking out about the incident. The actor had to spend about three months in prison before getting a bail on Oct 1, 2009.

However, the prosecution will continue presenting other evidence including the statements of 12 other witnesses, forensic reports and other documentary evidence, as per reports. The court has scheduled the next hearing on Shiney’s case for September 15 and Ahuja can still be convicted based on other evidence. Also, the maid faces the threat of being prosecuted for perjury if her latest statement turns out to be false. Source

Shiney Ahuja was back in Mumbai to complete filming for his horror flick ‘Shunya’. The Bombay High Court has permitted Ahuja to shoot in Mumbai till June 30, else he is to stay in Delhi and enter city limits for the hearings of his case.

Puja Bedi is a relieved producer and is frantically trying to wrap up the filming with actress Sayali Bhagat, former beauty pageant winner. Great care and caution has been exercised so that the media does not get a whiff of where Ahuja is filming. On the shooting front, its been an uneasy experience for the actor, despite best efforts from the cast and crew to make him feel at ease on the sets.

Says a close source, “There are stares and hushed whispers when Shiney is on the sets, and all of that disturbs Shiney greatly. Shiney, generally, avoids looking at people and returns to his vanity van as soon as the shot has been canned. He tries hard to mingle with the unit members, though he does maintain a safe distance from his co stars. And although they do talk there is a certain awkwardness in the air.” More

Shiney Ahuja is currently in judicial custody being accused of raping his maid servant. Shiney has got a filmy companion. It is filmmaker Sunil Agnihotri, known for his mega hit fantasy serial Chandrakanta and his Akshay Kumar double role starrer Jai Kishen (1997) and Akshay’s solo starrer Daava (1997).

It is learnt that Sunil Agnihotri has been convicted in a cheque bouncing case filed by producer Samir Hingora. Samir has been the producer of Sanjay Dutt-Manisha Koirala starrer Sanam (1997) and Jackie Shroff’s double role starrer Dil Hi To Hai (1992).

Sunil has been arrested under sec. 138 and will be lodged at Arthur Road prison serving six months imprisonment sentence. His last directed film was Arbaaz Khan starrer Alibaba Aur Chaalis Chor (2004). Industry sources say, he was planning to make a comeback with a big budget thriller but alas. Source

A local court yesterday extended the judicial custody of actor Shiney Ahuja, accused of raping his maid, till July 30. Though the defamed actor’s lawyer Shrikant Shivade put his argument forward seeking bail, the court gave in to the prosecution’s demand of extending the judicial custody as the police is still probing into the case.

This is the third extension of judicial custody for Bollywood actor, who has been lodged at Arthur Road jail, even as the sessions court had earlier turned down his bail plea on the grounds that he might influence the independent witnesses.

The DNA tests conducted on Shiney has confirmed sexual intercourse between the two with the actor claiming that it was consensual. Shiney has been charged under the IPC Section 376 for raping his 17-year-old maid on June 14 at his Oshiwara residence. Source

Bollywood shocking actor Shiney Ahuja is having a tough time in jail. Heavy rain in Mumbai leads to waterlog in his barrack. On Thursday, the water level raised to six inches inside Shiney’s barrack and irritated and helpless Shiney approached the jail authority to shift him to some other barrack.

Helpless Shiney finds a good friend in gangster Abu Salem. Abu is looking after his problem and he might do the best he can for his new friend. “The two often chat during breakfast and lunch,” a jail officer said. “Salem may use his clout and arrange for a better barrack for the actor.” In the jail, the two bond over exercise session and discuss their common interest, films.

Shiney’s bail application has been rejected and he will be under judicial custody till July 16.  Source

A session court on today adjourned the hearing of Bollywood actor Shiney Ahuja’s bail application, arrested for allegedly raping his maid, till July seven after the defence sought more time. Defence lawyer Shrikant Shivade told the court that he would require time to go through the prosecution’s reply and the investigation reports submitted by the police.

Ahuja was arrested on June 15 after his domestic help accused him of raping her while they were alone at his house.

Police officials said DNA and medical reports of the victim and Ahuja had corroborated the allegations made by the maid in FIR. Chief Minister Ashok Chavan had said the case would be committed to a fast track court soon to ensure justice and rehabilitation would be provided to the victim.

Ahuja’s judicial custody has been extended till July 16 and is currently lodged in the Arthur Road jail in central Mumbai. Source

Shiney Ahuja, who was arrested for allegedly raping his 20-year-old domestic help, had gone under a medical test, the reports of which have suggested that he was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of incident, police said.

“The blood and urine samples have shown that the actor was neither under the influence of alcohol nor drugs. He was in his complete sense when he allegedly raped the maid. We are awaiting the DNA reports,” Assistant Police Commissioner Dilip Suryawanshi told reporters. The blood and urine samples of the actor were sent to Kalina Forensic Science Laboratory for tests. Nail samples of the victim have also been sent for forensic tests to gather corroborative evidence in the case, police said.

Earlier, medical reports of the actor showed an abrasion on his right hand with no other injury on his body. Ahuja, who is in judicial custody till July 2, was arrested on June 15 after her domestic help accused him of raping her at his suburban Oshiwara residence. Source

Anupam Ahuja, wife of film actor Shiney Ahuja, firmly believes that her husband is an innocent man. Shiney Ahuja has been arrested on the charge of allegedly raping his 18-year-old maid and remanded to police custody till June 18, after preliminary medical tests indicated she was sexually assaulted. But Anupam Ahuja refuses to believe it!

She denied reports that Ahuja has ‘confessed’ to raping his maid. “It is a lie. It is utter rubbish. There has been a lot of speculation regarding her relationship with Shiney after the rape case emerged. It is rumoured that the couple is separated, and Anupam stays abroad with their daughter. Rubbishing the hearsay, Anupam, who runs a business, says, “It has been my choice not to be in the limelight and that has set the rumours mills going. People wrote that we were separated when I was pregnant and delivering our baby. When there were reports in the papers of us not being together, I was in Mumbai, and taking the baby out every day.”

Talking in glowing terms about her husband, Anupam said, he has always been an ‘introvert and a shy man.’ “He does not know how to mince words and since I have decided not to be in the limelight, he has been made to bear the brunt. He has been suffering ever since. His father is here with me; we are all in touch with each other and are standing united in support of Shiney. He is a person with a golden heart – that’s what we say about him in the family,” she said. Source
