Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has rejected a score of top notch foreign projects for her commitment to Bollywood. Believe it or not, but the sizzling beauty turned down movies like ‘Troy’, ‘Hancock’ and ‘Seven Pounds’ in the past, that had some of the most awe-striking international filmmakers and actors.

Confirming the news, Aishwarya said, “It wasn`t about an attitude I had, or any inverted ideas about working overseas, it was simply about scheduling. I just didn`t have the time”. The actress is reported to have been courted relentlessly by Hollywood filmmakers. Director Brett Ratner wanted her for ‘Rush Hour’ and Wolfgang Petersen pursued her for ‘Troy’.

Talking about the films she was offered, Ash said, “Michael Douglas came to India and did a press conference where he confessed that he had brought a script my way. And Will Smith was generous enough to be persistent twice over, for ‘Hancock’ and ‘Seven Pounds’.”

The 36-year-old actress said no to the Brad Pitt starrer ‘Troy’ as she was not comfortable with the intimate scenes. “One of the reasons I declined ‘Troy’ was that there were some very explicit lovemaking scenes in the script, and a lot of kisses. I was like, `Oh my God! I`m not sure`. I couldn`t imagine being comfortable with it,” said Aishwarya. Source

Director Mani Ratnam’s “Raavan”, which was released in three languages Friday, grossed Rs.20 crore (around $4.4 million) worldwide on its opening day, its co-producer Reliance BIG Pictures said. All three versions – “Raavan” (Hindi), “Raavanan” (Tamil) and “Villain” (Telugu) – co-produced by Reliance BIG Pictures and Madras Talkies, was released simultaneously in about 2,200 screens worldwide, said a press statement.

While the star cast of “Raavan” includes Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai and southern star Vikram, “Raavanan” features Vikram, Aishwarya and Prithviraj. The Tamil version was dubbed in Telugu to reach a wider audience. For foreign screens, the Hindi and Tamil versions have been released with English sub-titles.

In the Hindi version, Aishwarya plays Ragini, a dance teacher who is married to a policeman, played by Vikram. In the course of events, she is abducted by Beera (Abhishek) and held hostage at his jungle hideout. In the Tamil version, Vikram plays Beera. The music for both the versions is by Oscar winner A.R. Rahman and the cinematography has been done by Santosh Sivan. Source

Reliance BIG Pictures and Madras Talkies’ forthcoming Raavan will release in approximately 2200 screens worldwide on Friday, June 18, making it the first Indian film to release simultaneously in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu versions.

The Hindi version (Raavan) is slated to release in 1250 screens in India and 325 screens overseas in over 35 countries, including India, U.S., Canada, U.K., U.A.E., Malaysia, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, South Africa, Netherlands, France, Hong Kong, Pakistan, Sri Lanka etc.

The Tamil version Raavanan will release in 225 screens in India, including Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka and also in Mumbai, Delhi, Ahmedabad, Pune, Nasik, Surat, Baroda, Kolkata cities with English subtitles. It will release in 150 screens overseas in Singapore, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, U.S., U.K., Middle East Asia, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, etc.

The Telugu dubbed version Villain will release in 215 screens in Andhra Pradesh and in additional 25 screens in U.S., Australia and New Zealand. Source

Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan are likely to skip the IIFA Weekend to be held in the Sri Lankan capital of Colombo next month. Aishwarya who is back from shooting in Chennai with Rajnikant for “Robot” will travel to Paris in the first week of June.

“She is going for a Longines (international watch brand which the actress promotes) commitment to Paris where she will be attending the French open,” her spokesperson said.

Abhishek’s spokesperson said the actor will be shooting for Abhinay Deo’s “Game” in Istanbul. Abhishek’s father and megastar Amitabh Bachchan is the brand ambassador of IIFA since the event began ten years ago. There are speculations that the Big B too may give the event a miss this year following two incidents of demonstrations by some Tamil groups in Mumbai outside his home to protest against the choice of IIFA venue.
