It seems that actress Tisca Chopra is now trying to cut loose from the tag of a dedicated mother, a character she is still remembered for playing in the hit film Taare Zameen Par.

And Chopra has already started working in that direction. She recently played a glamorous socialite in the recently released Madhur Bhandarkar flick Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji and more lately as a psychiatrist in 404. Clearly, the lady doesn’t want to bind herself to typical homemaker roles and is now steering away from it too.

Talking about her roles, Chopra says, “In TZP and DTBHJ… I played a homemaker, though both had different priorities. In 404, for the first time I played a working professional. I played a psychiatrist and a teacher who is extremely intelligent and successful in her life. I took it as a challenge because after TZP, most people just wanted to cast me in a mother’s role. But now things are changing and filmmakers are coming to me with diverse and pulsating roles. Thanks to Madhur, I am not typecast anymore,” she laughs. More

It seems the talented actor Tisca Chopra wants to break free from the tag of a ‘dedicated, doting homemaker’ which she essayed in Aamir’s TAARE ZAMEEN PAR. After playing a glam socialite in DIL TOH BACCHA HAI JI, Tisca is back with a psycho thriller, 404 this time and her role is also not the typical housewife.

Says Tisca, “For the first time I am playing a person who’s got a job. In TZP and DIL TOH BACCHA HAI JI I played a housewife. But in 404 I play a psychiatrist and a teacher. She is extremely intelligent, extremely successful professional. She is absolutely managing her house, husband, child and job of a professor and psychiatrist. So it’s a challenging life she has.”

She further adds, “TAARE ZAMEEN PAR had established kind of good mother image. But now people are coming to me with such different and vibrant roles. The credit for this goes to Madhur, who smashed that entire image with DIL TO BACCHA HAI JI. And that’s the biggest excitement to not get slotted.” More

Dil Toh… is doing well and Tisca’s performance is being widely appreciated. Sharing her excitement, she says, “I am slightly surprised because I was not expecting such a huge response for my oomph factor.” And what kind of compliments is she getting? “In TZP everybody felt sympathetic towards me, but this time I have received some amazing reactions.

My account on social networking site has crashed with comments, especially from men asking me out for dates. In fact, my husband Sanjay hugged Madhur after watching the film. He told him – ‘I haven’t seen my wife like this before, and she has grown up as an actor.’”
‘Madhur believed in me’

It’s a dream come true for any actor to work with a filmmaker like Madhur Bhandarkar, and Tisca is no different. She says, “It’s difficult for someone to break the image that Aamir Khan had created, and only a gutsy director like Madhur could see the potential in me to do Anushka Narang.” The movie has some real hot scenes with co-star Emraan Hashmi.

Was she a bit sceptical about working with the ‘serial kisser’? “Not at all! Emraan’s so well-behaved and a sweet person. He makes you feel very comfortable before the shot and I wouldn’t mind working with him again,” says she. Source
